I tried Hemp-Derived Plant-Based False Lashes from Velour Beauty and here’s why you should too!

If you haven’t heard about Velour Beauty’s Plant-Fibre Lash Collection yet, it’s probably because it’s the first of its kind to hit the beauty industry. Derived from hemp plants, this collection embodies the brand’s DNA of innovation, sustainability and approachability. To kick off this year’s National Lash Day, I’m sharing my experience with trying out these hemp-derived plant-based false lashes that are also 100% vegan and cruelty-free!

I’ve been wearing false lashes for over a decade now and it’s insane to me to see how technology and science have advanced in the beauty industry. The fake lashes I’ve first been introduced to were made of cheap plastic material, the ends of the lashes were always blunt and dull and compared to the industry standard today would look like they came from the dollar store.

Over time it’s gotten a lot better where we have synthetic materials to mimic the look and feel of lashes while giving you the length and volume you desire. Velour Beauty took this a step further and created the first hemp-derived plant-based false lashes made completely from plants.

All 3 styles of Velour Beauty’s NEW Plant Fibre Lash Collection

This brand-new collection of plant-based lashes dropped 3 unique styles and I gave each style a wear test to see if there was a difference from the hemp fibres compared to other lashes I’ve worn from the Velour lashes. My first impression was, wow, they’re so fluffy are these really made from plants? I love a good salad but never have I looked down at my plate or greenery in my room and thought they could be possibly turned into false lashes!

Velour Beauty’s Plant Fibre Lashes in Second Nature

The most natural style out of the three is Second Nature, which will also be available in-store at Ulta Beauty so I would highly recommend you guys check it out in-store if possible! The style seemed light and sparse, leaning more towards a round shape with tiny criss-cross patterns to enhance your natural lashes.

My eye shape is a mix between almond and round, and I have a slight hood to it as I continue to age. I found Second Nature gave me length and enhanced the round look of my eyes, making them look more awake. They felt extremely lightweight and almost non-existent, I constantly reached up to feel them just to make sure they were still on.

What Second Nature managed to achieve is the ultimate look and feel of natural long lashes as if they were my own. If I were able to grow my own lashes out, I would hope they ended up looking like this lash style. The hemp material was thinner than any other lash I’ve tried and slightly thinner than the average lash hair but I think that added a fluffy factor that your own lash hairs might not be able to achieve.

Velour Beauty’s Plant Fibre lashes in Cloud Nine

The next style in their collection is Cloud Nine, a flared style with bunched-up clusters. Each cluster flares out in a V-shape but is in a straight pattern with a sparse number of cross-overs. Near the outer corner, the clusters start to get longer and add length and drama giving you a cat-eye effect.

Flared lashes typically elongate the shape of your eye, and Cloud Nine made my eye shape look almond, taking away the roundness. You can pair this with a winged liner to enhance the effect some more or wear it on its own to give your lashes a lifted look. I personally like a shorter inner corner when I wear a flared lash so I will probably end up trimming the lash band to be a ¾ lash and focus the placement of this style on the outer corner instead.

Velour Beauty’s Plant Fibre Lashes in A New Leaf

The last style in this collection is New Leaf, the fullest style of the three. While the hair on this lash isn’t considered long, they’re denser at the base giving your lashes a smoky eye effect. The round shape of the lash will open up your eyes giving it a doll-eyed effect – if you love a glam look this is the perfect lash style to pair with your look!

A New Leaf is my favourite in this collection, I love how it makes my eyes look brighter and awake without adding anything else to the look. The hemp-derived material feels weightless even though it’s considered a glam lash on their website. When it comes to a lash preference, a round lash is definitely my go-to.

Did I mention the lash bands are also derived from plants? They felt comfortable and hugged the natural curves of my lash line and felt comfortable all day long. I would typically wear lashes and feel discomfort after 3-4 hours of wear, but I managed to keep these on for 12 hours once (gross, I know) and didn’t realize till the end of the day that I enjoyed the feeling of wearing these.

They’re meant to be worn up to 20+ times, but due to the nature of these lashes, I can see why they’re not claiming more uses compared to their other lash collections. The fluffy material derived from plants feels porous which can change the curls over time.

Pro-tip: Avoid applying mascara on these lashes and wear them as the final step of your makeup application to keep them looking fresh and new.

100% vegan & cruelty free with 100% recyclable packaging

The packaging was a new approach from the usual boxes I got my Velour lashes in. At the start of 2021, they transitioned out of their mink lashes and with that they also got rid of their iconic acrylic lash cases. Slowly incorporating recycled packaging while keeping the luxe look and feel I’ve always known from Velour, their Plant Fibre collection featured a refreshing forest green soy-based ink printing on recycled plastic sleeves.

The boxes themselves had an organic cardboard feel to them and the overall theme felt earthy which aligned with their vegan plant-based beauty messaging. I don’t feel guilty when I toss the packaging in my blue bin as they’re 100% recyclable! Being eco-friendly and clean is a quality I always look at when I shop my beauty products.

I’m excited to see the direction Velour is headed in with its sustainability journey, creating one of the first plant-based false lashes in the beauty industry. I wished they came out with more styles when they launched as the choices seem limited.

If you’re new to lashes or you’re looking to cycle out your current collection to be more eco-conscious, plant-based and vegan friendly, then I would highly recommend checking out the Plant Fibre collection from Velour Beauty. How often can you say you’ve tried hemp-derived plant-based false lashes? The quality of these lashes is the new benchmark for when I try different brands and styles in the future!
